OCTOBER 2002
Sir Ernest Hall- Dean Clough Mill, Halifax

Sir Ernest Hall sets the scene with the story of this project and the roles of clients, patrons and visions. The Independent described Dean Clough Mill as "one of the most remarkable new centres of enterprise and artistic endeavour in the country"

John Makepiece - Adventures in Wood

John Makepiece, furniture designer and maker, will talk about his own work, his clients and some sources of his inspiration. He is noted for the development of his centres for training designer/craftsmen at Parnham House and at Hook Park.

Sharon Kusonoki - A flair for Patronage

Sharon Kusonoki of the Edward James Trust, West Dean is witing a book on patronage and her talk will refer amongst others, to Roland Penrose, Edward James and Wilfrid and Jeanette Cass.

Dominic Williams - The Baltic and Gateshead

Dominic Williams, architect, tells the story of the much admired conversion of the Baltic Flour Mills into the Gateshead Centre for Contemporary Art.

John McAslan - From Naval College to Music College

John McAslan, the architect, describes his conversion of part of Christopher Wren's Royal Naval College at Greenwich to become the home of Trinity College of Music.

The architecture, history and musical traditions of the Middle Street Synagogue, Brighton.

A presentation in words and music by some of the members of the Brighton & Hove Hebrew congregation.

Sir Jeremy Dixon - The restoration of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden

Sir Jeremy Dixon will talk about his restoration of the Royal Opera House.The lecture will be followed by the Annual General Meeting of the Society. Drinks will be served in the Banqueting Room

Derek Sugden- Some thoughts on opera houses and concert halls

Derek Sugden is one of the country's most respected acoustic experts and his hobby is visiting buildings designed for musical and opera performances around the world.
